Ugggghh. We’ve had unseasonably warm weather, and the higher pressure is really hurting the wave production. Small eastern swell coming through, but we aren’t seeing any strong NE systems developing. I wish I had something better to report, but there’s still no sign of a fat NE swell on the horizon. East-facing spots will be rideable, but nothing too special. Weather is great, the waves aren’t.
Still small scale surf coming through. We’ll get a bit of a push tomorrow and Tuesday but not quite enough to get the Shimei spots going. Houhai has been pretty fun the last few days. Houhai is best when there’snot too much swell around. Nice belly-high longboard waves.
We’ve got a quick swell hitting tomorrow with leftovers into Sunday.Then we’re back to another lull. There will still be enough of an east push to keep some waves around at the east-facing beaches though.

I finally got a surf in yesterday at Riyuewan. It was one of the worst days this season, but still fun enough at shoulder-high and lining up decent enough. Real short period though. Happy New Year to everybody. This is my third fall/winter season in Hainan, and it’s probably been the best so far. November and December were both really consistent, offering a ton of head-high and over days. The contest dates of the 10th and 11th are just now coming into the long-term forecast range.
