June 6th

Flat everywhere. Possibly enough for a longboard tomorrow in Dadonghai, and the same for the following few days. Small summer surf. Wating for the next swell.

June 5th

The NE swell that never was. It peaked at a silly waist-high bit in Riyuewan. Flat again, as we wait for another south swell to come in by Tuesday or Wednesday. Go for a paddle instead, nothing happening for the next few days.

May 31st

Thigh-high waves in Dadonghai today. I had the SUP and caught some lefts off of the reef on the far east side of DDH. It's actually the first time I've ever surfed there. It looks like a spot with a ton of potential, but even on a good south swell, it doesn't break that well. There seem to be about three distinct sections that never line up well. Plus it is extremely shallow, with a handful of exposed barnacle encrusted rocks.

Odd for this time of year, we are going to get a Northeast swell coming through later this week. By Thursday, we should get a two-meter swell, which should be enough to get the east coast point breaks going. These late season NE swells always forecast a bit funky though, so we'll keep a close eye on it and our fingers crossed.

May 28th

It surprisngly got pretty decent today. At around two in the afternoon, it was a solid chest-high and offshore. Lots of fun. The banks have been quite good this summer in Dadonghai. So much better then last summer. Should be a touch bigger tomorrow.

May 26th

Ugh. Not looking good. Tiny south bump over the next week. Probably enough for a log. A good week to get back into taking the SUP out for some distance paddles.

May 23rd

Sorry for the lack of reports recently. I was up at Matt and Darci's wedding in Hubei. Good times.

This south swell didn't amount to too much, just some belly-high slop. Ridable but nothing special. This will continue through the week, and our best chance at something bigger comes by Friday. We'll keep an eye on it.

May 16th

A bump in the water, but it's just pounding the shore. Not really ridable. Looks like small south for the next few days, with our next shot at good surf coming next weekend, on Saturday and Sunday. Weekend warriors in China might want to head down to get some south goodness.

May 14th

After a few days of flatness, we've got some tiny waves coming through in Dadonghai. Enough for a log. Looks to be similar over the next week, small south waves. Better than nothing.

May 8th

Third day of good south swell. About chest-high today in DDH. A few different peaks working alright. I'm surfed out, could barely make a second session today (yeah I know, life is hard).

Still something left for tomorrow too. Sweet.

May 6th Update

Super fun this afternoon out at the XDH right. Chest-high sets, with an occasional shoulder-high set coming through. The peak was a bit shifty, with some of the bigger ones throwing really wide. A bit of luck was required to get the positioning right on the bigger sets. I got some good video from with our waterproof camera. Going to go through it soon.

Looks like it will drop over the next few days, but still something to ride. Love the summer south swells.
