View from the road at Shimei Bay.
I brought my compass out today, and it turns out Shimei is completely south-facing. So the surf is probably about 20% smaller at Shimei than other spots, as swells generally come in at 80 degrees. But there is a consistent north wind coming off the mountains at Shimei. The offshores, coupled with the point break off the reef, makes for a great spot. About waist to chest today, with lovely form. I took seven buses during my travels the last two days. It's a great way to get to know the island (and regional accents), but I would love a car as well.
