This swell has been really good. Monday was shoulder-high up at Nanyanwan where I got to score some waves with Andy, Edith, and Martin. Andy says yesterday was big but a bit sectiony, and today is epic. I've been stuck with other obligations so couldn't make it out the last two days. Running a surf business is not all fun and games unfortunately.
Christmas Day tomorrow should still see some head-high waves at the Shimei spots.

I'm looking forward to tomorrow, as I'll be hitting the water for a final surf with my friend Martin, who will be leaving Hainan after two years on the island. Also, our friends Andy and Edith (and their daughter Klarissa) are getting into town tomorrow morning. We're looking at shoulder-plus waves for tomorrow, and then peaking on Tuesday in the head-high plus range.
There was still enough swell around for east-facing spots to have head-high plus waves. There probably won't be much left by tomorrow though. By Monday we'll get another swell. Not super big, but enough to probably get the Shimei spots going in the head-high range for a few days. Then into Friday it should build enough to get us some overhead surf. This season has been incredible so far!

The tail end of the swell was still bringing through some chest-high waves at Riyuewan. It tapered off throughout the day and actually went side-on, which is odd for that spot this time of year.
The Shimei spots will be dead for about a week, so hit the east-facing spots for some surf while we wait for the next swell.
It's been overhead for the last three days at Shimei spots. The swell should fade a bit by tomorrow, but with lighter winds, more directly east-facing spots should be pretty good. By next weekend we should see another strong swell kick in.
